• Mixed Metro Access Solution for the FTTB Services (3/18/2010)

  • Preface: With the development of the industry customers application in India, the carriers need to provide the network services with higher bandwidth, higher stability and higher quality, so as to adapt the development of the new services, such as Video conference, VoIP and Network monitoring. Currently, the last-mile private access mode of Indias traditional mainstream carriers for the enterprise customers in the city is mainly based on the SDH network, while in the branch offices of the medium/small cities and remote rural areas, the last-mile private access mode is based on xDSL and RF wireless access. Whether the traditional SDH, xDSL or RF wireless always faces the challenges. For example, the investment is large, bandwidth expansion is limited, the network quality cannot be ensured and the line cost is high. The MAN transformation is urgent.

The following is the traditional MPLS L3 VPN network mode:

Traditional MPLS L3 VPN network mode

After 2007, with the development of the carrier-class Ethernet technology, Indias carriers start to construct the MAN Ethernet access network gradually to provide the carrier-class Ethernet private access services for customers. Compared with the traditional TDM/xDSL/Microwave technology, the carrier-class Ethernet technology is simple, the cost is low and the bandwidth expansion is flexible. Meanwhile, it solves the carrier-class OAM and can meet the hard requirements of the future enterprise customers for the private network completely.

However, the construction of the carrier-class Ethernet access network cannot come into be all at once. How to protect the investment of the original traditional technology, but also transmit to the carrier-class Ethernet access network flexibly is the problem that many traditional private carriers need to consider. As for the development of the last-mile private access mode of Indias carriers, Maipu puts forward the solution of Mixed Metro Access. With the carrier-class switch S3400 that provides various interfaces, the solution can integrate the traditional TDM and RF access devices with the carrier-class Ethernet perfectly. It completes the deployment of the new services and protects the original investment.

    The description of the solution:

For the existing VPN private users of the carriers, the customers reserve the original L3 VPN services and realize the low-bandwidth connection via the TDM private line or RF wireless. If the customer needs the 10M or more than 100M FTTB, Maipu carrier-class switch S3400 can provide high-bandwidth fiber connection.

S3400 is designed for the development of India carriers MAN, meeting the requirement of India enterprise networks private line market transiting from TDM to Ethernet fiber, RF wireless to Ethernet fiber, and xDSL to Ethernet fiber. The solution of Mixed Metro Access realizes the carrier-class Ethernet fiber access and integrates many kinds of traditional technologies, protecting the investment.

S3400 provides eight 10/100M Base-T interfaces and supports POE power supply. It can connect the original RF wireless devices to provide the traditional microwave wireless access. Meanwhile, it can provide eight E1/T1 PWE3 interfaces to connect the traditional TDM devices (such as PBX and SDH equipments). Besides, S3400 provides 16 100M optical interfaces to realize the carrier-class FTTB fiber connection. With S3400, carriers can integrate various last-mile access modes to one device easily, which protects the original investment and reduces the network maintenance cost. It is the best choice of the migration from the traditional access technology to carrier-class Ethernet access with a long term.
